This may sound like a silly question but how do i go about finding myself?

should i read more books, spend more time alone? lately i've been thinking i need to know myself better a lot of my other clmates in college know their favorite authors, movies, and seem so informed on everything from politics to underground music. how do i get to this level of comprehension?
