Xbox controller to screen lag?

whenever i input commands on my 360 controller it always takes a little bit longer than it should to respond, leaving it with a jerky feel, it happens offline, which means it cant be a problem with my connection when online, does anyone have any fixes that dont involve new TV's cause i cant afford one right now, im thinking maybe switch to an HDMI cable?
